The San Francisco office of this mid-size firm is engaged primarily in litigation and general business, although the firm boasts a solid regulatory and administrative law practice and a respectable labor/employment practice. The firm has a strong pro bono commitment; associates receive full billable hour credit for approved pro bono work and, overall, pro bono comprises 3-5% of all work. The billable hour target is 1850 and salaries are approximately 20% below market.
IP Litigation Paralegal Duties: Manage all aspects of the patent litigation process. Knowledge of litigation and trial procedures including federal, state, and appellate court procedures and federal and state court rules. Prepare, organize, and manage litigation documents, including discovery, motion, expert, and trial documents, along with managing similar responsibilities for co-pending proceedings in the USPTO. Cite checking briefs and preparing exhibits for filing. File documents in Federal district and appellate courts. Conduct research and gather information using general and legal research tools. Assist in trial preparation. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and paralegal certificate or appropriate job-related experience required. Have 7+ years of experience as a patent litigation paralegal with substantial trial experience. Experience with USPTO inter partes review and re-examination proceedings. Experience with e-discovery coordination and project management, including data collection, document retrieval, and production. Proficient in electronic filings using CM/ECF system. Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong computer skills including litigation support software and databases. Exceptional drafting, proofreading, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, plan, and take initiative to accomplish objectives in a timely manner with minimum supervision. Must be a team player while effectively and efficiently using firm resources.
