Litigation Paralegal The candidate will work independently and under supervision of Lead Paralegal and AYS attorneys to apply knowledge of law and legal procedures in direct assistance to AYS attorneys. Will work as a member of the AYS legal team to assist, where needed. Take independent action and initiative, when necessary, to meet case management and litigation deadlines Under the supervision of Lead Paralegal and AYS attorneys: prepare and format a variety of legal documents using Word 2010; maintain relevant data bases and files for effective case management; provide copies of legal documents to relevant parties; file legal documents with State & Federal courts (Required: experience eFiling with US District Court CM/ECF system);assist with pre-trial and trial preparation; assist Lead Paralegal in managing and maintaining litigation calendar for deadlines to ensure important dates are recorded in the Firm s case management database; schedule appointments and meetings for attorneys, as needed, and add to Firm s Calendar; proofread prepared legal documents and material to ensure free from typographical and grammatical errors, and to ensure format is according to Firm standards and State and Federal court requirements; ensure efficient follow-up with legal support services for effective case management; Work beyond scheduled work hours, when necessary; meet expected minimum client billable hours. The candidate should have 3+ years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant working in the area of civil litigation (required), preferably in a large law firm (preferred), with some experience in a small law firm (preferred); AND one or the other of the following. ABA approved Paralegal Certificate is required. Compliance with the qualifications for Paralegals in California Business and Professions Code sections 6450 6456 (enacted in 2000). Demonstrate proficiency with the following to accomplish legal tasks: MS Office 2010 (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook); Adobe Pro; LASC website navigation, including courtroom Information, courthouse locations, case summary, and other website navigation for effective case management; OCSC eFiling requirements; USDC website navigation, including CM/ECF and Pacer; Knowledge of litigation process in State and Federal courts; Manage electronic case files; Manage discovery and other case management tracking.
