Litigation Paralegal Duties : The paralegal assists with all aspects of the discovery and litigation process; investigates facts, propounds and responds to discovery, prepares third party subpoenas and prepares documents for filing in both Federal and State courts; conducts legal research and cite-checks briefs, reviews, redacts and prepares documents for production; maintains and organizes documents; and prepares calendar deadlines and assists with all aspects of pre-trial and trial preparation. Performs a wide variety of legal research and data compilation, with little or no supervision. Assists with preparation of pleadings to be filed with the Court. Prepares correspondence, declarations and compendium of evidence in support of dispositive motions. Drafts a wide variety of legal documents in discovery, including third-party subpoenas. Reviews documents on document database and prepares for production along with a privilege log when necessary. Prepares for mediations, arbitrations and trials. Assists Attorneys at trial. Assists Attorney in preparation for depositions. Communicates with witnesses and experts and assists with preparation of anticipated testimony. Assists with scheduling. Enters billing and expense data into Firm system in a timely manner. Coordinates major projects or cases, some of which may involve the work of multiple paralegals. Requirements: The candidate should have 5+ years of paralegal experience, preferably working in a labor/employment litigation practice. Must have ABA-approved Paralegal certificate and a degree from accredited college or university. Must have experience in preparing attorneys for trials, arbitrations and mediations with little or no supervision. Must have experience with assistance at trial. Must have experience preparing third-party subpoenas (including calculation of all deadlines). Should preferably have experience with trial preparation software, including Trial Director, LiveNote, CaseMap. Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Lexis-Nexis, WestLaw, Live Note, Relativity, Case Map, Docketing, Document Management System, expense and billing systems. Litigation Paralegal The candidate performs a variety of legal and case related duties for attorneys on assigned cases. Interacts with colleagues in a team setting and upholds the image of the Firm by maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff, and observing confidentiality of client matters. Organize, index and compile documents in formats useful for case management; maintain document collections and productions in electronic databases. Prepare and maintain production, privilege and redaction logs; assist attorneys in initial review of documents for responsiveness and privilege status. Create and maintain deposition transcripts, deposition exhibits and document productions in a variety of databases, including TextMap, CaseMap, and Relativity. Coordinate all aspects of document productions including Bates numbering, protective order or confidential information administration, submission/service via electronic media, etc. Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing summonses and drafting complaints; preparing and responding to discovery requests; generating status reports; and coordinating document review with experts. Coordinate all aspects of third-party discovery, including drafting subpoenas, coordinating service of subpoenas, and working with third-party vendors to obtain responsive documents. Perform legal and non-legal research on the internet, Lexis or Westlaw. Confirm court rules and filing requirements, in state and federal matters, in California and other jurisdictions. Bluebook, Shepardize, cite check, proofread and edit documents. Assist with trial preparation and attend trial; prepare and compile key trial documents; assist with case calendar of relevant due dates; set up work spaces for trial, locally or remotely (arrange for vendors, equipment, telephone, supplies, etc); maintain trial exhibits and update exhibit list as exhibits are added or admitted; assist with documents being filed before, during and after trial; assist with presentation of materials at trial; and coordinate scheduling with clients and experts. Work closely with Records Management to facilitate organization and indexing of client materials in accordance with Firm's Records Management procedures; arrange case room space through Records Management, and war room space.
