Intellectual Property Paralegal - Litigation The candidate will prepare discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, deposition notices, cover motions, declarations, proposed orders, exhibit appendices and correspondence. Assist with document collection processes and oversee document production. Consult with firm's eDiscovery management team to manage document databases and coordinate electronic discovery processes. E-file documents in various Federal and State courts, including but not limited to Patent and Trademark Appeal Board, International Trade Commission, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Perform legal cite-checking of motions and briefs utilizing the Blue Book and other key cite-checking authorities. Assemble basic drafts of patent disclosures, including but not limited to Proposed Claim Terms & Constructions, Infringement Contentions, Invalidity Contentions, and Claim Construction briefs. Assist with drafting and filing of Inter Partes Review (IPR) and related documents, including but not limited to: Assignments, Powers of Attorney, and Declarations. Draft Response shells, Preliminary Amendments, Missing Parts Response, Petitions, Request for Extensions of Time, Information Disclosure Statements, Notice of Appeal, Issue fees, Requests for corrected documents. Manage a full docket of patent-related deadlines, send timely reminders to clients and attorneys, and ensure that deadlines are handled. Assist attorney team with organization and maintenance of case documents, and routine monitoring of case dockets and patent activity. Assist with depositions, hearing, and trial preparation: assist with pretrial preparation (deposition designations, exhibit and witness lists, organization and management of exhibits, files, trial subpoenas, and other supporting documents). Conduct various document searches and factual research. Other projects as assigned. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of litigation paralegal experience in a large Law Firm, Corporate Legal Department, or Professional Services environment, preferably within an intellectual property litigation practice required. ITC experience, is a plus. Understanding of the litigation life cycle and the timeline of patent disclosures. Familiar with procedural rules including but not limited to Local Rules, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, USPTO Rules, and Patent Local Rules. Experience using Microsoft productivity tools: including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Acrobat Adobe; familiarity and general knowledge of other research tools, such as government agency databases, the internet, and social media sites to obtain required information and documents. Proficient with software including but not limited to document management software/NetDocs, Relativity, Westlaw, Lexis, USPTO Patent Center and Pacer. Knowledge of Intellectual Property Litigation practice-area-specific procedures and terminology. Ability to proofread materials for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors. Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to interact with all levels of firm personnel, clients, other counsel, and vendors. Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational skills, be self-motivated, and have attention to detail including the ability to prioritize work and manage a high volume of cases and projects while producing exceptional work product in a fast-paced environment. Must be available to work extended hours and travel when required, including to extended out of town trials. Ability to work confidently and efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines. Reliable and dependable team player who can adapt quickly to new surroundings.
