Patent Paralegal Specialist Duties: Prepare all documents relating to patent proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). File patent applications and associated documents using EFS-Web, and file patent assignment and other chain of title documents using EPAS. Docket required actions and due dates based on USPTO or WIPO correspondence. Review and update docketing records on a regular basis, and help ensure that deadlines are met and lawyers are notified on a regular and timely basis of upcoming deadlines and other important dates; prepare and distribute status reports as needed. Familiarity with IPDAS, PCT-SAFE, PATTSY WAVE (or similar software), USPTO portals (including PAIR, EFS- Web, E2E, and EPAS), and retrieval of documents from foreign patent office databases. Draft correspondence to clients and in-house counsel. Help maintain the integrity and accuracy of matters assigned to the Firm's USPTO customer number, and reconcile and prepare reports of charges to the USPTO deposit account on a monthly basis. Communicate by phone with various branches of the USPTO from time to time. Perform occasional internet-based and factual research as needed. Record time promptly and provide clear and concise descriptions of work performed. Work reasonable overtime as needed, and as with all positions, perform other duties as requested by Firm management. Qualifications: Must be knowledgeable of, and stay current with, rules and regulations pertaining to U.S. patent prosecution and best practices for docketing. Detailed knowledge of patent prosecution, including initial application filing, U.S. national phase entry, amendments and other papers throughout the examination process, patent term adjustment, appeal and petition procedures, requests for certificates of correction, maintenance fees, reissue proceedings, and ex parte reexam. Experience with patent term extension applications is preferred. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the Firm in an appropriate and professional manner; strong service orientation, sense of accountability, attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management skills.
