Paralegal - Defense Litigation The candidate will review medical and other records, manage and meet discovery deadlines, and manage and update case activity to assist attorneys with case monitoring and client reporting. Will create and update case management spreadsheets to track medical records, discovery requests and responses and settled/discontinued actions. Prepare binders and exhibits for depositions, mediations, expert review, settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials. Monitor ECF's, and internal MA 3000 calendar to prepare and assist with all phases of discovery. Communicate upcoming discovery deadlines and court appearances to attorneys. Prepare deposition digests and summaries. Using document management software, prepare document productions by analyzing, coding, redacting and bates stamping documents. Process authorizations and compile medical records, photographs, and other fact investigative material to be analyzed and/or produced; analyze medical records and draft chronologies. Utilize online ECF filing system on both state and federal court levels. Prepare and serve various legal documents, i.e. subpoenas, discovery requests motions, etc., and execute follow-up regarding service and filing of documents. Travel to court to file documents, attend hearings or assist at trial. Proofread and assemble motions and accompanying exhibits. Review, download, profile and distribute case notifications received electronically. Communicate with clients, vendors, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, local counsel and counsel for co-defendants as needed. Accurately record and maintain billable hours.
The candidate should preferably have Bachelor's degree. Must have 2-4 years of defense litigation experience. Should have experience with case management to support the mass tort and medical life science groups including general liability, medical malpractice, nursing home and assisted living liability, toxic exposures, lead paint, construction defect property damage litigation and product liability litigation. Experience reviewing medical and technical records plus. Nursing, health care or science background helpful. Military experience is a plus. Proficiency in MS Office applications required. Experience utilizing SharePoint, e-discovery platforms and trial technology tools a plus.
