Litigation Paralegal (Appellate/Briefing Practice) Duties: Support Appellate/Briefing Attorneys. Assists in drafting legal documents including, but not limited to; pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, correspondence to opposing counsel, and communications with the court. Responsible for compiling and marking exhibits, tables of contents, table of authorities, and other documents related to legal filings. Conducts computerized legal research, as well as medical, scientific, and technical literature research. Analyzes materials and prepares a synopsis. Maintains appeal docket and calendar, noting deadline dates for responsive pleadings/motions, court appearances, and other important deadlines. Assists attorneys in preparation for meetings, hearings, depositions, and trials. Prepares witness, defendant, and case materials for trial preparation. Maintains, organizes, and tracks case files. Interacts with clients, responds to client inquiries, keep clients updated on the progress of cases. Maintains confidentiality of client information in accordance with firm policies. Files court documents. Trains new paralegals and attorneys to learn asbestos products, job sites, etc. Develops and maintains a database of defendants, settlements, job-sites, and co-workers to assist attorneys with new clients. Assists with drafting and effecting client, co-worker, and expert affidavits. Assists attorneys with locating case files and documents. Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2+ years of technical training. 2+ years experience as a paralegal. Preferred: Relevant industry certification. Experience working with appeal and/or mesothelioma docket. Familiarity with various State and Federal Appeals Court rules and procedures. Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Word, and advanced typing skills are required. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Problem-solving skills. Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
