is Looking for a Patent Prosecution Paralegal is looking for a Patent Prosecution Paralegal to join their Intellectual Property Department in their Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will be part of a team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. Job Responsibilities The Patent Prosecution Paralegal will be responsible for the following: Assisting in filing of U.S., PCT, and foreign regional patent applications and responses both electronically and paper Overall support for all aspects of portfolio management Effecting national phase entry of PCT applications and preparing and filing continuing applications Corresponding with foreign associates and preparing reporting letters to clients Drafting correspondence to clients regarding status of applications and patents, including reporting filing receipts for applications, publication notices, proofreading, and forwarding patent certificates Drafting detailed letters to clients reporting Office Actions Reviewing and managing dockets for deadlines, understanding dockets and deadlines, and taking necessary action on each file Assisting in patent filing strategies and due diligence Communicating with attorneys and other team members about dockets Utilizing Case Assistants or contract resources to prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements Performing PTA calculations and requests for corrections Maintaining accurate daily time records for client billing purposes Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications: Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a patent prosecution paralegal, legal secretary, or comparable position with experience working in a law firm or in-house legal environment Four-year degree or equivalent law firm experience preferred Paralegal certificate from ABA approved program preferred Familiarity with USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) Procedures, Rules, and Requirements Knowledge of U.S. and PCT patent rules and procedures; knowledge of national laws of other countries; knowledge of Paris Convention and deadlines set therein Knowledge of various Courts systems and filing requirements High level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat, U.S. Patent Office Electronic Filing System, Dialog, and other internet research tools Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to compose routine correspondence Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects simultaneously Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to perform well under pressure Reliability and dependability as a team player Ability to work independently and take initiative to move projects to conclusion Sense of urgency relating to client requests and ability to meet deadlines Strong work ethic, flexibility, dependability, and positive can-do attitude Experience with Electronic Filing USPTO procedures Ability to travel, if needed Compensation This is a full-time, regular position with a multi-faceted health benefit package including medical, dental, and vision.
