Although the litigators are able to become more specialized, corporate associates have a general practice, which ocassional spreads them (and their expertise) a bit thin. Litigation Paralegal Nelson Mullins law firm is seeking a litigation paralegal for their Richmond office to assist attorneys representing leading automotive manufacturers and distributors in a range of matters. The ideal candidate will have 1 - 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm, including case preparation from beginning to end and an understanding of a paralegal's role in the litigation life cycle, especially product liability litigation. Responsibilities: - Maintain and monitor court deadlines for assigned cases and take ownership of case calendars - Electronically file documents with the Court through the ECF system under the supervision of an attorney - Perform online PACER research - Prepare drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions - Prepare deposition notices (organize, maintain and prepare deposition materials, exhibits and summaries) - Track and manage discovery, including document productions - Participate in case strategy meetings - Handle routine calls and correspondence to courts, outside attorneys, and clients Requirements: - 2 or 4-year degree and a paralegal certificate; however, work experience may be substituted for education - Well-developed critical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines - Strong sense of accountability, take ownership over projects and responsibilities, resolve issues proactively, and know how to be a true team player - Technology pro and have no problem learning new software - Utilize paralegal expertise and keen eye for detail to further teamwork, client services, and efficiency - Ability to conduct research using various tool including Internet and Westlaw - This role will require some travel to attend trials as well as overtime to meet business needs Salary The salary for this position is commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate will have 1 - 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm, including case preparation from beginning to end and an understanding of a paralegal's role in the litigation life cycle, especially product liability litigation. A Day in the Life As a litigation paralegal, you will be performing a broad range of substantive paralegal tasks, directly working with attorneys on product liability, warranty, franchise and distribution law litigation, and other complex business disputes in a variety of industries. Your duties include maintaining and monitoring court deadlines for assigned cases, electronically filing documents with the Court through the ECF system under the supervision of an attorney, performing online PACER research, and preparing drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions. Other responsibilities will involve preparing deposition notices (organize, maintain and prepare deposition materials, exhibits and summaries), tracking and managing discovery, including document productions, participating in case strategy meetings, and handling routine calls and correspondence to courts, outside attorneys, and clients.
