Litigation Paralegal The candidate will conduct effective interviews (intake) with potential clients. Draft legal documents including, complaints, summons, pleadings, discovery requests and discovery responses under attorney supervision. Track service of process, appearances, motions, discovery responses and update access database. Docket depositions and motions that have been noticed for hearing. Complete regular review using case management software (Filevine) to ensure compliance with all CMO ( Case Management Order No. 19 ) deadlines. Provide lead attorneys with regular updates as they pertain to the ( Case Management Order No. 19 ) and general evolution of the case. Monitor File&ServeXpress for any documents that require immediate attorney attention. Assist litigation team with preparation of trial binders. Confirm return of pathology slides from defense counsel. Request funeral expenses (where applicable). Request pictures from family. Arrange for client hotel and flight for trial (if applicable). Attend trial and assist attorneys as needed. Order the diagnosing surgical pathology report (immediately upon receipt of HIPAA forms). Order all medical records & bills, union, military, social security and employment records upon receipt of authorizations. Order all pathology slides and blocks (immediately upon receipt of HIPAA forms). Order all radiological films (immediately upon receipt of HIPAA forms). Maintain chain of custody of pathology slides/blocks and radiological films. Organize and file medical records into client electronic folders. Disclose medical records to all defense counsel. Order updated records and bills throughout the life of the lawsuit. Organize bills and records in preparation for trial 2 months in advance of trial date. Save and organize electronic files on the shared drive. Organize electronic pleadings and discovery received via mail. Create projects and add vital information to case management software. Schedule and coordinate attorneys travel arrangements. Send courtesy copies to judges clerk prior to court hearings. Electronically file documents via File&Serve Illinois. Bachelors Degree or combination of relevant experience or ABA paralegal certification required. 3 years paralegal experience is required.
