Bankruptcy Paralegal The candidate will work with all of the attorneys on matters from the beginning through completion of the restructuring, from both the creditor and company side. Manage the flow of information and ensuring adherence to best practices. Create and implement all elements of bankruptcy case management systems, including file management (electronic and hard copy), case calendaring, task lists, and bankruptcy-related deadlines. Work with attorneys on all aspects of chapter 11 company and creditor-side representations, including drafting of bankruptcy petitions, first-day pleadings, organization of diligence, pro hac vice motions, maintaining task list and case calendar, and drafting of other routine filings. Draft and review routine legal documents as requested by attorneys. File through CM/ECF filing system in all bankruptcy courts. Research local rules of procedure for relevant court venues, and assures adherence thereto; obtains information on the venue; obtains precedent from other cases in the venue. Research and integrate case precedent into motion filings. Conduct precedent and legal research under attorney supervision. Develop and update critical date lists. Manage hearing preparation and support, including scheduling of telephonic appearances, making of hearing binders, coordination of appearances of clients. Respond to creditor case inquiries. Interact with outside entities (e.g. courts, government agencies, clients, corporations, vendors, and other law firms) to gather information or coordinate activities as needed in support of upcoming filings, depositions, or hearings. Create and maintain effective working relationships with others to facilitate a positive work environment. The candidate must have 2-5 years of work experience as a bankruptcy paralegal at an NYC firm. Should have knowledge of Bankruptcy Court procedures and practices and familiarity with chapter 11 reorganization process and basic documents such as SoFAs, fee applications, disclosure statements, and plans of reorganization. Knowledge of bankruptcy litigation process and experience working with document review software, such as Relativity and strong knowledge of blue-booking and cite-checking briefs, as well as the creation of Table of Authorities using Best Authority is required. Must have prior working experience in the bankruptcy group of a law firm representing large corporate debtors and creditors in complex chapter 11 cases. Should also have experience using Relativity document hosting the database. Must also have proficiency using LexisNexis, Westlaw, BloombergLaw and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro. Must have strong attention to detail and accountability; ability to communicate with individuals of all levels within the firm in a courteous and professional manner; excellent organizational skills; ability to work concurrently on a variety of matters and manage time and expectations; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; excellent judgment.
