Litigation Paralegal Duties: Support multiple litigation lawyers and be expected to work with other staff members in a variety of office settings. Perform legal and nonlegal research. Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, memoranda, and correspondence. Assist with case management, strategy, and progression. Assist attorneys with deposition preparation including preparing witness question outlines and compiling the necessary exhibits to be offered during the deposition. Assist with all aspects of the discovery phase including preparing discovery requests and discovery objections and responses, issuing all types of subpoenas, and coordinating depositions. Assist in the gathering, review, and production of documents during the discovery phase of litigation. Prepare for and attend client meetings, document productions, depositions, hearings and trials. Prepare summaries of depositions, documents and medical records. Assist in trial preparation by preparing trial and exhibit notebooks, preparing direct and cross examinations, and coordinating the necessary travel arrangements and various resource needs for trial. Assist at trial by outlining testimony, organizing exhibits and preparing witnesses. Handle routine correspondence and maintain telephone contact with client. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from accredited paralegal/legal assistant program with 5 years of related litigation experience at a law firm or a corporate law department. Excellent writing skills and experience in drafting all types of pleadings. Knowledge of Applicable Law: Substantive and Procedural in both state and federal courts Computer-assisted legal research databases (Westlaw and/or Lexis). Knowledge and use of Law Library. Litigation support database and trial presentation programs (Summation, Eclipse, Sanction or similar software programs). Complexity of Decisions. Ability to meet deadlines and organize large quantities of information. Ability to work under pressure and in a timely manner. Ability to delegate. Ability to work unsupervised. Ability to take initiative on tasks that need to be performed and deadlines that need to be met. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to manage a high volume of work. Effective communication skills. Detail oriented. Organization skills. Ability to travel when necessary. Flexibility to work overtime. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact directly with attorneys, clients and other firm members on a daily basis. Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Office 2013 and have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of experience. Ability to work well under the pressures of deadlines, prioritize and multi-task, and have the ability to move from one project to another. In addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills with an aptitude to interface with lawyers, clients and staff.
