Litigation Paralegal Duties: Under supervision from firm attorneys, this position performs a wide range of paralegal duties and directly supports attorneys and other staff as part of the litigation team. Interacts effectively and professionally with all attorneys, staff, clients, vendors, court personnel, and other outside parties. Working as part of a team of attorneys and staff members, provide highest-quality legal services to achieve clients goals in litigation matters, including cases in state and federal courts, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings. Work with attorneys and clients to plan and manage discovery, including electronic discovery, in all phases from litigation hold to preliminary review and production by the client to intake, analysis and production of documents. Review, organize, analyze, and manage all paper documents, electronic evidence, court filings and internal work product for litigation matters. Coordinate and manage e-discovery databases with office services and outside vendors. Identify and use appropriate technology solutions for managing litigation information and documents. Using e-discovery tools, manage document productions and creation of privilege logs. Proofread and format briefs and filings, including checking citations to the record and legal authority, preparing tables of contents and tables of authorities. Prepare summaries and analyses of documents and data using Excel or other tools. Prepare witness files, abstracts of transcripts, and/or exhibits for briefs, depositions, trials, and other hearings. Provide support as needed for trials and hearings. Legal and factual research and writing, including correspondence, briefs, discovery responses, and other legal documents. Assist in improving the Firm s litigation support workflows and practices and provide training and continuing education for all attorneys on e-discovery and related matters. Other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal Certificate. 5+ years of experience as litigation Paralegal. Familiarity with labor & employment and education matters strongly preferred. Experience with litigation procedures (including trial procedures) in federal and Illinois state courts. Excellent organization and project management skills. Experience with electronic discovery platforms such as Summation, Concordance, CaseLogistix, Relativity, or iPro. Advanced knowledge of electronic research tools (e.g., Westlaw) and public records resources. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (including Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to maintain strict confidentiality of client information. Able to learn new skills as technology changes. Able to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing. Able to pay attention to detail. Able to follow complex procedures and comply with instructions, court rules, etc. Able to use judgment to make sound, justifiable recommendations, and to know when and to whom to escalate issues. Able to understand legal concepts and issues relevant to a litigation matter. Able to identify what work needs to be done and carry out typical job functions with minimal direct supervision. Able to think creatively and solve problems. Able to manage and prioritize work on multiple cases and projects to meet established deadlines. Able to work effectively in a culturally and educationally diverse environment. Able to work full-time and to work flexible/overtime hours, weekends, and holidays if needed due to upcoming deadlines, trials, etc. Able to travel to and work in remote worksites such as client locations, courthouses, deposition locations, etc., as needed.
