Defense Paralegal - Litigation Responsibilities: Requesting (by subpoena or otherwise), organizing (including Bates-stamping) and summarizing (preparing chronologies) medical records (preparing chronologies) and itemizing bills. Conducting various document searches and factual research; culling relevant information from a variety of resources. Preparing and serving discovery requests and compiling discovery responses. Communicating with and interviewing experts, medical personnel, law enforcement officers, etc.; scheduling and arranging meetings. Summarizing depositions and attached exhibits. Drafting correspondence and legal documents, such as summonses, pleadings, discovery requests, motions, notices and pretrial orders, etc. Reviewing damage information, preparing damage summaries, and calculating damage. Assisting the attorney in trial preparation, including witness preparation, organizing exhibits, preparing exhibit lists and coordinating witness appearances. Performing any of the job duties of a legal assistant, as requested and/or required. Accurately and contemporaneously completing time entries in conformity with client guidelines and firm requirements. Performing other related duties, as requested and/or required. Qualifications: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize tasks and perform on deadline in a highly demanding environment. Possess analytical and critical thinking skills. Good computer skills; ability to operate keyboard and knowledge of various computer programs, including word-processing programs, court-filing computer systems and transcription software. Familiarity with federal, state and local rules of civil procedure. Familiarity with legal and research databases. Ability to effectively communicate with staff members, clients, witnesses, attorneys and courtroom staff. Ability to report to work on time and with regular attendance. Ability to handle work independently or with limited direction. Self-starter.
