Litigation Paralegal Duties: Processing incoming cases and setting up new matters in the case management system (document review and management, scheduling deadlines and follow-ups, etc.). Proactively review and complete all legal matters with little, to no guidance. Legal matters include required contested pleadings such as answers, affirmative defenses, counterclaims, and motions for summary judgment and use judgement to identify and know how to escalate issues. Independently assess service returns and process alias summonses and publication notices as required in order to complete jurisdiction. Ability to review and complete with little, to no guidance discovery from opposing counsel, coordinating client responses, preparation of outgoing discovery drafts with limited number of errors and/or corrections. Ability to use judgement in how to properly manage client communications to process and exchange pleadings and discovery documents. Independently draft various motions including summary judgment motions. Maintain status reports on all files and monitor deadlines in advance and routinely update assigned attorneys. Serve as primary point of contact on case files. Proactively manage the full cycle of assigned litigation files and escalate matters to attorneys as appropriate. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or Associate s Degree and Paralegal Certification. 5+ years of litigation experience. Demonstrate appropriate initiative especially with attorney follow-up items. Excellent time-management, organizational and communication skills. Ability to monitor a case load of 50-75 cases at various stages of proceeding. Work efficiently and accurately. Reported to a Supervisor at a multi-attorney law firm or government agency Dependability and reliability (flex hours are not available). Preference will be given to those with commercial litigation experience.
