Ballard Spahr's attorney elected Fellow to ABA's College of Labor and Employment

Attorney Denise M. Keyser of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, has been honored as Fellow in the American Bar Association's College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Keyser, a partner in the litigation department; member of the labor, employment & immigration practice; and member of the Health Care group of the law firm, specializes in labor and employment issues, including arbitrations, discrimination, collective bargaining, OSHA, ERISA, and affirmative action.

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, a non-profit professional association, honors the nation's top lawyers in the areas of labor and employment law.

Allen & Overy's Japan office at crossroads

The underperforming Tokyo arm of the magic circle firm Allen & Overy, is under scrutiny. The management will meet to discuss the Japan office and decide on its fate; whether to pull down the shutter, or revive it by investing heavily-which could be done by appointing Bengoshi.

Set-up in 1988, the Tokyo office of the law firm has six partners, and is making considerable operating profit. But when the drawings of the partners is subtracted, the office is a loss-making arm. US firms have witnessed a varied fate in the Japanese market-Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton has closed its office recently, while Linklaters had launched a first fully integrated office last year, by investing heavily.

Disintegration of Wacks Caller, UK - a boon for Pannone

Ending a two year speculation on its fate, Northwest based Wacks Caller has finally disintegrated with corporate partner Martin Caller calling the shots. Martin, also a founder partner of the law firm, will lead a team of around 40 staff to join regional competitor Pannone. Among other top lawyers leaving the firm include litigation head Kit Sorrell, corporate litigation partner Michael Kennedy, and commercial property partner John Gower Jones.

The move may help push Pannone among the top 50 UK law firms, and also boost its corporate practice. The four remaining partners of Wacks Caller intend to re-launch the firm under the name of Atticus.
