DLA Piper announces promotions, creates new position


DLA Piper has promoted 66 lawyers to partnership. In the U.S., 39 attorneys have been made partners, while the figure for Asia and Europe stands at 27. The London office saw the most promotions—10 lawyers across seven practice areas made partner. The firm's Chicago office witnessed seven promotions, the largest increase in new partners in a U.S. office. DLA Piper also announced the creation of a new legal director position for which 21 lawyers have been selected. The legal director will be at a new level between associate and partner, and the position will demand fee-earning capabilities, management skills, and specialist knowledge of senior associates. Furthermore, DLA Piper has promoted 111 lawyers to the associate level in its European and Asian offices.

Lerach Coughlin offers new service for institutional investors


Lerach, Coughlin, Stoia, Geller, Rudman & Robbins, LLP, has launched a new service for institutional investors. The securities claims-filing service will be an addition to the firm's proprietary Portfolio Monitoring Program, the leading fraud detection system for U.S. and international investors. The firm, which boasts that it has been responsible for more than $45 billion in investor recoveries, will assist institutional investors with recovering funds through the new service. It will offer clients a range of portfolio monitoring services, such as identifying and prosecuting securities claims and ensuring maximized recoveries. A leader in the investor-protection sector, 180-lawyer Lerach Coughlin serves some of the largest pension funds and institutional investors across the globe.

Personal injury firm selects SinglePoint as its consolidated-server solution


Christensen National Law Firm, LLC, has selected SinglePoint Networks, a division of IT Machines, to provide an all-in-one business-server solution for the firm. The fully hosted IT service consolidates the firm's computer network and IP phone system requirements, creating one point of contact. The technology will help the firm with assisting accident victims with personal-injury and wrongful-death claims. It will contribute to a reduction of costs, a streamlining of services, and improving the overall efficiency of the firm. Serving personal-injury victims across the U.S., Christensen National Law Firm states that most of the attorneys in its referral network are certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as civil trial lawyers.

Reed Smith implements Compuware Vantage to improve application performance


Identifying, resolving, and preventing application performance problems will now be easier for Reed Smith, LLP. One of the world's 15 largest law firms, Reed Smith has opted to install Compuware Vantage, a product of Compuware Corporation, which promises to provide high- end application services. The software will not only feature an alerting capability but also a service-validation feature. The application service management capabilities of the software, in particular, will help Reed Smith's technology team prepare baseline comparisons, set service-level agreements, and calculate WAN bandwidth. The law firm has 1,300 lawyers working in 19 cities across the globe and advises leading companies in the areas of financial services, life sciences, shipping, energy, trade and commodities, advertising, technology, and media.

Legal 500 includes Loeb & Loeb on list of top mergers and acquisitions practices


The U.S. inaugural edition of Legal 500, a law firm referral guide, includes national law firm Loeb & Loeb, LLP, on its list of "top-tier" mergers and acquisitions practices in the United States. Among other observations, the guide noted that in addition to having a strong media and entertainment practice, the law firm has an "impressive" mid-market transactional practice. Legal 500 has also praised some of the law firm's top lawyers, including Andrew Ross, David Schaefer, Harold Flegelman, and John Frankenheimer. The mergers and acquisitions list is included in volume 1 of the corporate and finance edition of Legal 500, U.S. 2007 Edition. Loeb & Loeb has 250 lawyers and has offices in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Nashville.
