International law firm network boasts increasing membership


The MSI Legal and Accounting Network Worldwide has reported strong growth, adding new member firms in both established and emerging markets internationally. Jack Lyon & Jones, PA, an 18-attorney commercial law firm in Arkansas, will be the newest U.S. member. The network now boasts more than 240 law and accounting firms in 95 countries. MSI helps small and medium sized companies by offering its managements services, including prevention of hostile takeovers.


Shake-ups for major Philadelphia firms


Cozen O'Connor and Buchanan Ingersoll have both announced management restructuring plans. Cozen O'Connor plans to bring in a younger generation of firm leadership, while Buchanan Ingersoll is looking to implement strategic planning and business development management positions. Cozen O'Connor recently completed stage one of a three stage plan to invigorate the firm with new blood. The firm is one of the only Am Law 100 firms still run by its founding partners. They hope that the transition will take the firm in a new direction. Buchanan Ingersoll has described their new plan as a streamlining of its management structure. Older positions, such as Chief Operating Officer, have been eliminated to make way for new ones, including a non-attorney management position.


Special counsel for employee defection group


Susan M. Guerette has been named special counsel in law firm Saul Ewing LLP's Employee Defection & Recruitment Practice Group. Having litigated more than 200 employee defection and recruitment cases, Ms. Guerette specializes in this non-competitive practice area. With her addition, this unique group now has eight members fully dedicated to the employee defection and recruitment practice-making it one of the largest groups in the country working on matters relating to migration of employees to or from competitive firms. A 260 lawyer firm, Saul Ewing serves clients in the United States as well as has internationally.


Littler Mendelson ventures into Kansas City


Littler Mendelson PC, one of the largest employment and labor law firms in the US has opened a new office in Kansas City. Erin Webber, who was with the Denver office of the law firm, would now manage the firm's KC venture. According to Littler, this is the firm's 36th office, which would provide service to existing clients in the areas of Missouri and Kansas, and would also help expand its practice to new markets. With over 475 attorneys located in offices across the nation, Littler provides integrated solutions for labor, employment, and benefits issue, and has a premier employment litigation practice.
