Litigation Paralegal The candidate will assist attorneys with pleadings, exhibits, investigations, discovery, maintaining the case-management database and preparing attorneys for depositions, hearings and trials. Will manage caseload of 3-5 attorneys. Reviews and analyzes cases to assist in preparation of case for trial, and for purpose of preparing matter evaluations and status reports to clients. Drafts complaints and answers, routine notices, affidavits, motions and petitions. Organizes attorney trial notebooks, expert witness notebooks, document indexes and lists. Locates and confers with expert witnesses and resource people. Arranges for expert witness inspections and obtains approval from counsel of record and specified parties. Conducts research and locates cases, depositions, opinions, reports and information related to the matter. Contacts and interviews parties, witnesses and experts, including the obtaining of written statements from witnesses. Reviews and outlines depositions, indexes and summarizes documents. Assists in preparation of the case for trial by drafting and preparing: Pre-trial Orders, Form Instructions to the Jury, Requested Voir Dire of Jurors, Conduct Jury Investigations, prepares Witness and Exhibit Lists, etc. Assists in the trial of the case including scheduling of witnesses and controls and tracks exhibits. Performs assigned legal research tasks using all available resources including libraries and computer data systems. Assists with settlement transactions, including preparation of documents. Follows ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct Operates standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, fax machines, etc. Maintains daily billable time records. Time management skills, including ability to independently organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to use critical thinking skills, including using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to the problems. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when evaluating legal matters. Work requires a high level of mental effort while organizing and maintaining multiple cases. Ability to communicate and follow instruction effectively in written and oral communication with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with courtesy and tact. Ability to work in a calm and effective manner in high-stress situations, and the ability to accept criticism with a positive attitude. Ability to take on new responsibilities and challenges with minimal supervision, take the initiative in assigned projects, and plan for future projects based on previous experience. Ability to maintain integrity and high standards ethical conduct, including but not limited to avoiding conflicts of interest pertaining to client matters; preserving and protecting the confidences and privileged communications of clients.College degree or paralegal certificate preferred. Must have 3+ years of law firm experience as a paralegal.
