Bilingual Immigration Paralegals The candidate perform most of the following duties: Rotate with other staff to handle incoming client calls, usually in Spanish. Screen potential clients to decide if their situation meets our guidelines for an appointment with attorneys. Meet with clients to gather documents, complete immigration forms, interview clients, and draft client statements for attorney review. Occasionally deliver legal files to various courts and government agencies in San Francisco. Write short letters to companies, institutions and government agencies to request court records, medical reports, and school records. (Training provided.) Follow up by phone when necessary. After sufficient training and experience, paralegals prepare various legal papers, such as pleading caption pages, lists of evidentiary exhibits, etc., simple motions, and occasionally assist attorneys in researching social, economic conditions, and human rights conditions in the client's home country. Track case progress in Excel spreadsheets and Lexis Nexis Time Matters. The candidate should have Four-year college degree from a U.S. college or university with at minimum GPA of 3.0. (Selected candidates must produce school transcripts prior to employment.). Should have fluency in English. Good writing skills are needed. Ability to also speak Portuguese is a plus. should have Good interpersonal communication skills and confidence to interview clients. (Paralegals interview clients about sensitive matters and then draft narrative client statements.)
