Litigation Paralegal Responsibilities: Assists attorneys in in all stages of litigation cases from onset through post-trial. Assists attorneys and other paralegals in large-scale projects outside of typical litigation scope. Oversees organization, maintenance and appropriate utilization of electronic and hard-copy documents and other case-related materials, including maintenance of electronic case folders and tracking spreadsheets across various platforms. Assists and manages with the discovery process and prepares for depositions. Participates in document reviews and document productions; works with attorneys and other paralegals in navigating electronic databases as part of case fact development. Performs analytical tasks; reviews and summarizes documents and deposition transcripts. Assists with basic legal research, including locating cases, statutes and regulatory materials; conduct fact research on internet and private search engines, such as Westlaw and Lexis. Assists with law and motion practice, assembles motion papers and exhibits, coordinates filings of pleadings and briefs, and ensures proper service. Drafts common pleadings, motions, notices and other court filings. Performs and oversees both simple and complex authority and fact cite-checking; confirms case quotes; proofreads briefs and other legal documents. Assists with trial preparations; creates trial notebooks; identifies and organizes exhibits, coordinates witness schedules; maintains trial calendars, and communicates effectively with opposing counsel and courtroom staff. Assists in the preparation of post-trial filings, including briefing, motions for costs and sanctions, etc. and organize the case for appeal if necessary. Maintains timely and accurate timekeeping records on a daily basis. Assists with other department activities as needed, and perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and Paralegal Certification preferred; equivalent experience considered and NALA certification is ideal. Should have 7+ years of experience as a Litigation Paralegal within a multi-lawyer law firm. Trial experience, including exhibit preparation, witness preparation and management, knowledge of subpoena preparation, experience working with judicial assistants and trial presentation vendors, and experience assisting attorneys in the courtroom. Familiarity with federal and state rules of procedure and evidence for document format, content, filing, etc. and ensures compliance with rules. Exceptional computer skills, with the ability to learn and apply new software applications quickly. Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, as well as document management. Proficiency with e-filing and litigation support applications such as e-discovery platforms (e.g., Eclipse or Relativity), FileSite/WorkSite, Adobe Acrobat, cloud-based file-sharing platforms / FTP link platforms, and similar technology.
