Immigration Paralegal Specialist The candidate will be responsible for carrying out administrative tasks and provide general support to the two staff attorneys in the immigration court context. Will start work on cases such as Asylum, Cancellation of Removal, Family-based, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, VAWA and U Visa cases by April 15, 2018. Calendar Court dates, internal and court imposed filing deadlines. Meet with court clients to receive and create documentary evidence in preparation for court submission. Perform background checks for clients, including FBI fingerprint requests, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Refugee Resettlement, and Customs and Border Protection. Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing systems. Gather and arrange evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation. Translate affidavits and other formal statements that may be used as evidence in court. Prepare and File exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents with the court and/or opposing counsel. Perform general administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, faxing, scanning, opening and closing files. Should be English-Spanish bi-literate/bilingual with 2+ years of experience in carrying out administrative tasks and provide general support to the at least two staff attorneys in the immigration court context. Preference will be those who have worked with victims of crime. Proven working experience in the immigration field as a legal assistant, legal secretary and familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and the immigration court system is a must.
