Litigation Paralegal Duties: Works alongside attorneys, litigation support specialists and fellow paralegals, often across offices, during all phases of the litigation process, from the initiation of a case to the discovery period through trial and post-trial findings and appeals. Assists with document collection, organization and productions. Conducts the bates-stamping, redaction, duplication and indexing of documents. Sets up and maintains files which are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter. Works with Litigation Support on all electronic productions and ensures adherence to best practices as promulgated by that department. Under the guidance of an attorney, categorizes documents by subject matter, prepares a chronology of facts and creates production charts including privilege logs. Organizes interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation. Maintains proficiency in the utilization and application of available document management systems and supporting technology. Collaborates with Litigation Support to build and maintain appropriate document databases, run searches on internal and external document databases and systems, cull relevant information from a variety of resources such as courts, newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents and trade associations. Maintains key documents for reference and review. Under attorney supervision, maintains witness lists, assembles witness binders / files, prepares for and attends depositions, including the assembly of chronologies and documents relevant to the deponent. Readies and maintains exhibits, takes notes and handles exhibits during the deposition. Post deposition: ensure signing, appropriate distribution and safekeeping of the original transcript as well as utilization of Livenote for transcript management. Pulls relevant documents, proofreads papers, organizes exhibits and creates document indices in the preparation of motion filing. Works with attorneys in the preparation and filing of all court documents. Creates, binds and distributes both file and courtesy copies. Organizes the briefs, exhibits and appendices. Assists attorneys with and coordinates the paper and/or e-filings of pleadings and court documents. Oversees the progress of and the life of documents through the Litigation Support Department and Records Management Department. Orders transcripts from reporting services, and fulfills requests from outside counsel and others. Assists with trials in the state, federal, appellate and supreme courts, as well as ITC Litigation, SEC investigations, arbitrations and/or mediations. Tasks include organizing exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinates trial set-up and logistics (e.g. travel, hotel), set-up of remote offices (locally and out of state as necessary), assists attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handling exhibits, and marking documents referred to by counsel, assists in the preparation of witness testimony and serves as the liaison between trial attorneys and in-house staff. Ensures the utilization of Livenote for trial transcript management. Adheres to best practices as promulgated by the Firm for Daily Time Entry (DTE) for client billable work and eTime for attendance and time off requests. Supervise support staff, assistants and temporary staff: provides adequate supervision, mentoring and coaching of junior team members assigned to the case. Contributes to the Firm's ServiceMatters initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person. Qualifications: BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience. 5+ years of related experience including general litigation proceedings. Knowledgeable of applicable court systems, judicial processes and procedures. Proficiency in document management systems as described above. Proficiency in litigation support databases and technology including Excel and the Internet. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, across offices if necessary, to meet strict deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
