Paralegal The candidate should have 3-5 years of Paralegal experience and a desire to work with public school districts in the area of special education. Candidates with fewer years of legal experience who have prior work experience in education and/or ADR will also be considered. Strong research and writing skills are required. Litigation or administrative hearing experience is preferred. Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the rules of Professional Conduct of the state. Draft, edit and finalize correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents using word processing software. Maintain a docket/calendar showing the status of pending cases. Prepare cases for hearings and mediations (i.e., review/organize records, prepare case chronologies; analyze/organize records for documentary evidence and prepare list of potential witnesses. Draft routine pleadings, resolutions, declarations, contracts, settlement agreements, and other legal documents as appropriate. Draft discovery responses, summarize deposition transcripts. Perform cite checking, shepardizing and legal research both manually and through use of electronic resources such as Westlaw and/or Lexis-Nexis. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars and workshops to keep abreast of latest developments in education law and other related areas Possess excellent research, writing and analytical skills, Have strong interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to be an integral member of a team, Certificate of completion or a degree from an ABA approved paralegal program or post-secondary institution. Excellent spelling, grammar, oral communication and organizational skills. Ability to lift and carry files and other objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by email and telephone and follow instruction effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, clients and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact. Ability to adhere to all Firm personnel policies and practices, Ability to satisfactorily perform multiple assignments in a timely fashion in a high-pressure environment.
