Paralegal/Legal Assistant Responsibilities: Answering calls, following up with potential new clients, and scheduling consultations with potential new clients. Communicating in a professional manner with all existing and potential clients. Scheduling new court dates, deadlines, and client meetings in firm calendar to assure that attorneys calendars are accurately maintained and organized. Scheduling depositions and court reporters. Interacting with the courts and administrative agencies regarding hearings, motions, and other appearances. Preparing and assuring the execution of retainer agreements. Managing the attorneys mail. Preparing and sending legal correspondence as directed by attorneys. Organizing case files (i.e. electronic and manual). Drafting letters to the District Attorney or City Attorney s office for informal requests for discovery. Preparing discovery and responses to discovery demands. Requesting discovery from various law enforcement offices and agencies. Picking up media discovery from various prosecutorial offices in county. Ordering office supplies and food/drinks for the break room. The Candidate: An ABA recognized Paralegal Certificate is preferred. Prior knowledge and work experience in criminal law and/or civil litigation is preferred. Exhibit a strong work ethic with high standards for reliability, and quality of work. Must be able to prioritize and multitask with meticulous attention to detail. Must be punctual, reliable, and have good attendance. Have excellent spelling, typing, and grammar skills. Must have excellent communication skills in both oral and written form, and interpersonal skills. Be willing to perform administrative tasks. Be a self-starter who is highly detail oriented. Display a positive and team-focused attitude. Have strong computer skills with significant experience in MS Office Suite, including spreadsheets, and case management software. Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly preferred.
