We do not need to tell you that as a very successful Arizona firm the people here do appear to work very hard and we hate to say it but we will: Many are working New York type hours. The firm also has been criticized in many respects for its lack of diversity; however, we do not believe that this is a serious problem because the firm's recent hires have all been very diverse in our opinion. The firm also receives very high scores for the treatment of associates by partners and there does appear to be a very good relationship here between associates and partners with associates feeling they are part of the mix to a great degree and respected by partners. Most associates at this firm would much rather stay with the firm than switch firms. In our book this is a good sign.
Paralegal Duties: Support attorneys and paralegals in the Commercial Litigation practice group in various aspects of their practices including legal and factual research, writing, editing, and cite checking in litigation and non-litigation matters. Under general supervision, assist attorneys and paralegals with document and information management, factual analysis, discovery, and trial support. Some travel may be required. These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Will assist litigation attorneys and paralegals with all phases of litigation case support including document/information management, factual analysis, discovery, and trial support. Collect and organize court opinions, statutes, regulations, guidance, and policy papers relating to issues raised in administrative proceedings and litigation. Proofread, cite-check, and assist in the preparation of legal memoranda and exhibits for administrative proceedings and litigation. Maintain positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality of client matters. Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, other documents, and attorney notebooks. Summarize articles, reports, witness statements, and depositions. Conduct factual research and analysis. Keep accurate time records. Prepare case/matter notebooks. Perform factual and legal research. Coordinate and attend client conferences, document productions, depositions, closings, and other transactions. Prepare material for in-house and outside distribution. Draft and revise legal documents and correspondence. Coordinate service of process and/or filings with public entities. Obtain factual information from clients and third parties, including governmental agencies. Keep track of case/matter deadlines. Maintain departmental form files and systems. Perform computer database input and retrieval. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the firm's attendance expectations. Flexibility to work in various groups as needed. Required: A Bachelor's degree preferred and 3+ years of paralegal or paralegal assistant experience. Paralegal certificate preferred. Experience with automated litigation support software required. Proficiency in legal research databases including Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline, as well as government online databases. Familiarity with all phases of litigation, discovery, and trial procedures. Demonstrated skills in document /information management. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. General word processing skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Proficiency in Adobe. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments from different attorneys and paralegals. Familiarity with trial support and preparation, and document and case management under the supervision of attorneys or paralegals is preferred.
