Estate Administration and Planning Paralegal RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish close rapport with the client and beneficiaries to ensure a positive and cooperative working relationship during the course of the estate administration. Prepare probate and administration documents for formal and informal proceedings. Collect, analyze and organize the decedent's financial records, including tax returns, inter vivos trust agreements, gift tax returns, and financial statements. Value the decedent's assets at the date of death and the applicable alternate value date(s) and determine liabilities of the estate. Preparation of probate administration paperwork, including administration of accounts, all court petitions and filings, accounting, orders, deeds, certifications, etc., and coordinate post-death non-probate administration. Consider post-mortem estate planning and prepare disclaimer documents. Prepare U.S. and non-resident estate tax and inheritance tax returns. Prepare required documents in connection with the distribution of general and specific bequests, interim and residuary distributions, and the finding of testamentary trusts. Compile materials required in connection with an audit of estate and/or inheritance tax returns. Prepare and file Accountings and related settlement documents. Assist attorneys, as needed, in connection with drafting Wills, other estate planning documents, and estate litigation documents and special projects and duties, as assigned. Coordinate probate court filings and recordings, including research and familiarity with local rules and probate court. Work with client's financial advisors on proper titling of accounts. working with client's financial advisors on proper titling of accounts. Prepare Gift Tax, Estate Tax, and Fiduciary Income Tax returns. Communicate professional advisors, court, bank employees relating to routine facets of running a law firm. Monitor, prioritize, organize and facilitate daily workflow in order to meet project deadlines. QUALIFICATIONS: Should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Must have 5+ years of experience in trusts and estates. Previous experience with a variety of tax programs, including programs for estate and inheritance tax, fiduciary income tax, estate tax, and securities evaluations, and with tracking billable time is required. Should preferably have experience as a paralegal in a law firm. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) is a prerequisite. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong research and investigative skills are essential. Must have the ability to accept ownership of projects and successfully drive the project tasks on a daily basis. Self-motivated, flexible with exceptional follow-through skills. Capable of independently managing multiple projects nnovative attitude. Tax, Estate Tax, and Fiduciary Income Tax returns.
