Legal Assistant/Paralegal The candidate will open and maintain client files and associated data input into various programs. Will communicate with clients as needed to collect documents and evidence, screen calls, schedule appointments, and greet clients. Draft and edit government forms, client/witness declarations, cover letters and mini briefs to government agencies advocating for immigration benefit approvals. Research country conditions and other subjects as requested by attorney. Order records from various agencies and courts. Draft/implement firm workflow systems. Organize client files, assist with client billing and calendaring. Scan and shred files. Depending upon interests and abilities, may help draft posts or research issues for blog articles, social media and/or professional or community presentations. The candidate should have Bachelor s degree required preferably in international relations, political science, foreign language, law/justice, journalism or related field. Paralegal training or certificate, or immigration coursework is preferred. Prior law firm, nonprofit legal organization, or NGO experience is preferred. Must have commitment to confidentiality of client and office information, and a very solid work ethic and dependability. Ability to multitask, follow directions, work independently, and meet deadlines essential. Must be Mac computer proficient; must have experience using MS Office Suite of software programs, Adobe Acrobat, and any type of off the shelf programs involving data input. Immigration or other government forms programs experience is preferred. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish with ability to speak, write and translate documents quickly and accurately. Must be fluent in Spanish and English including legal terminology and interpretation. Must have superior writing, grammar, and accurate typing and organizational skills, and attention to detail (including editing and correcting one s own work). Must have superior customer service skills and experience, plus interest working with people of diverse cultures, languages, religions and politics. IT skills a plus.
