Workers Compensation Paralegal Duties: Assist and provide a wide range of legal support to the supervising attorney(s); therefore, they will enhance the attorneys effectiveness. Will include: Maintaining files, conducting legal research, drafting documents, communicating with clients and other parties involve in the cases etc. Will spend most of their time working closely with clients and other professionals and must be able to develop good relationships. Make clients comfortable sharing personal information regarding their cases. Will be responsible for many cases at times. Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations and articles. Organize and maintain documents in the physical file and in the firms document Management software. Gather, maintain current and arrange evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation. Write reports to help attorneys prepare for trial. Obtain affidavits and other formal documents/statements that may be used as evidence in court. Assist lawyers during trials by handlings exhibits, taking notes or reviewing trial transcripts. File exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents (after lawyer has reviewed and approved) with the court or opposing council. Reach out to clients, witnesses, lawyers and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, or depositions. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree, or Associates degree, or certificate degree in paralegal studies, or 5+ years of experience as a paralegal. Workers Compensation experience preferred. They must adapt to a fast paced environment with constant changing of deadlines. Must contain excellent organizational skills. Good research and investigative skills to conduct legal research. Knowledge of law offices common practices and the legal field. Must be able to document and present their legal research and any related information to their supervising attorney(s) in a timely manner. Must be familiar with using computers for legal research as well as support in any other facets of law. In addition, the paralegal needs to be familiar with computer software that may help them organize and maintain legal documents. Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure. Must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently, with minimal supervision. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. E-filing knowledge in preparation to file all types of discovery requests, responses to opposing counsel, and motions. Knowledge of legal documents and terminology. Knowledge of billing. Knowledge of investigating the facts of a case.
