Life insurance Paid time off # Full-Time Paralegal - VA/Medicaid ## Law Firm Seeks Experienced Paralegal to Handle VA and Medicaid Cases Law Firm is searching for a full-time Paralegal with VA and Medicaid case experience to join their team. This position offers a competitive salary of $17 - $22 an hour. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of and experience within the areas of VA benefits and Medicaid applications, preferably as a paralegal. This candidate will be a self-starter, resourceful, compassionate, responsive, and adaptable. They must have strong problem-solving skills to proactively anticipate and resolve issues and bring to attorneys attention. ## Duties and Responsibilities - Meet with clients to help guide and explain the Veterans Benefits and Medicaid process - how assets are determined, income requirements, processing of applications, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) expectations with submitted applications. - Assist attorney with compiling and organizing documentation to support applications for Medicaid planning and long-term care benefits. - Communicate professionally with clients via phone, in-person, and email to set up appointments, discuss draft documents and changes to documents, and answer general client inquiries. - Data collection and preparation of asset spreadsheets. - Communication with financial institutions, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Veterans Affairs' to obtain information used in the application process. - Make sure that deadlines set by the VA are met by the team; create letters and draft appeals for review and signature by attorney. - Complete basic administrative duties as requested, e.g., scanning, paper, and electronic file maintenance and organization, notarization, formatting, printing, and assembly of documents - Maintain billable hour requirements, assessed as a performance metric both weekly and year-to-date. ## Qualifications and Skills - Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required - Comprehensive knowledge of and experience within the areas of VA benefits and Medicaid applications, preferably as a paralegal - Strong problem-solving skills to proactively anticipate and resolve issues and bring to attorneys attention - Excellent communication skills both verbal and written - Self-starter, resourceful, compassionate, responsive, and adaptable - Proficient with Microsoft 365 programs, specifically Excel, Word and OneNote - Excellent attention to detail and time management - Ability to communicate with Attorneys and staff in a pleasant, cordial, and courteous manner, with a common goal in mind, to act professionally and competently in all facets of the law office environment. ## Benefits Law Firm offers a comprehensive benefits package for their full-time paralegal, including: - 3 weeks PTO per year increasing to 4 weeks at 5 years - Life insurance, short- and long-term disability - 401(k) and Health Benefit options - Attendance at an annual conference - Monthly firm lunch ## How to Apply To apply, please submit a detailed resume with a cover letter explaining why you are the best candidate for the position and what attracts you most about the position.
