Paralegal- Special Education and Student Services RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow the ethical requirements as set forth by the rules of Professional Conduct of the state. Draft, edit and finalize correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents using word processing software. Maintain a docket/calendar showing the status of pending cases. Prepare cases for hearings and mediations (i.e., review/organize records, prepare case chronologies; analyze/organize records for documentary evidence and prepare list of potential witnesses. Draft routine pleadings, resolutions, declarations, contracts, settlement agreements, and other legal documents as appropriate. Draft discovery responses, and summarize deposition transcripts. Perform cite-checking, shepardizing, and legal research both manually and through the use of electronic resources such as Westlaw and/or Lexis-Nexis. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars and workshops to keep abreast of the latest developments in education law and other related areas. QUALIFICATIONS: Certificate of completion or a degree from an ABA-approved paralegal program or post-secondary institution. Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to be an integral member of a team. Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate in person, by email, and by telephone and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, clients, and staff, and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact. Excellent spelling, grammar, oral communication, and organizational skills. Ability to adhere to all Firm personnel policies and practices. Ability to satisfactorily perform multiple assignments in a timely fashion in a high-pressure environment.
