We do not need to tell you that as a very successful Arizona firm the people here do appear to work very hard and we hate to say it but we will: Many are working New York type hours. The firm also has been criticized in many respects for its lack of diversity; however, we do not believe that this is a serious problem because the firm's recent hires have all been very diverse in our opinion. The firm also receives very high scores for the treatment of associates by partners and there does appear to be a very good relationship here between associates and partners with associates feeling they are part of the mix to a great degree and respected by partners. Most associates at this firm would much rather stay with the firm than switch firms. In our book this is a good sign.
Senior Paralegal Duties: Drafts resolutions to be presented at a board or stockholder meeting. Works independently, with minimal supervision, on the overall management of patent litigation projects. Understands the substantive, technical and legal issues of case and contribute meaningfully to the overall case strategy. Makes relevancy calls and decisions about what information/documents are needed for case. Contributes to accurate reporting to your case team regarding the status of your discovery efforts and provide meaningful suggestions/solutions to the team. Will have day-to-day management of the document vendors, (internal and external) and team members to ensure compliance and information accuracy. Provides formal and informal training, coaching, and mentorship to team members, new or less-tenured paralegals, and ESS team members. Contributes to departmental efficiency efforts and provide suggestions for process improvement. Exercises good judgment in preparing timely and accurate case budgets, including budget forecasting. Exercises excellent judgment and initiative, and possess strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills to successfully drive projects to completion. Keeps accurate time records and comply with clients billing requirements. Assists attorneys with client pitches and may participate in client events. Coordinates and attends client conferences, court hearings, and trials as requested by the attorneys. Manages source code reviews with an understanding of the client's source code policies and procedures for handling their code. Maintains compliance with all discovery orders, and the protective order as they relate to source code productions. Maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality of client matters. Maintains a positive attitude and provides excellent client service. Performs other duties, as assigned. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the Firm's attendance expectations. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and 10+ years of paralegal experience is required. Trial preparation and trial experience required. Litigation experience working with all levels of management and staff of Fortune 100 companies is preferred. Paralegal certificate is preferred. Experience in patent litigation, experience with the inter-workings of the U. S. Patent Office, and experience with patent litigation matters before the International Trade Commission is a plus. Experience with automated litigation support software is required. Must possess extensive experience in, and a thorough understanding of all aspects of litigation case support including, document and data preservation, collection, processing, review, production, and document/information management systems and databases. Ability to conduct legal research and complex factual investigations. Ability to conduct cite checking of briefs, motions, memoranda, and other legal documents. Ability to manage discovery, deposition preparation and scheduling, pretrial preparation, and trial support, and all other case management duties assigned by attorneys. Demonstrates strong leadership, project, and resource management skills to successfully drive projects and initiatives to completion and execute flawlessly. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with team members, staff, and employees at all management levels within the firm and within our clients organizations. Possesses a solid understanding of litigation and the rules of civil procedure, including key a solid understanding of courts and judges rules and standing orders. Thorough knowledge of all phases of litigation, discovery, motion practice, and trial procedures. Demonstrated skills in document /information management. Ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with Firm lawyers and staff, client personnel, and other professionals. Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle multiple tasks, multiple concurrent deadlines, work well under pressure and independently. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Patent experience a plus.
