Senior Trusts and Estates Paralegal Duties: Assist in estate administration including probate, maintenance, taxes and closing out the estate. Marshalling the assets. Collecting insurance proceeds, handle Medicare and other medical claims, ascertain the decedent s debts and collect bank accounts. Arrange for the appraisals of real property and tangible personal property and prepare date of death valuations for banking and brokerage accounts. Assemble information for the Fiduciary Accountant to prepare the decedent's final income tax return. Establish estate checking and brokerage accounts, pay all bills, maintain checkbook ledgers, and file the estate s inventory with the court. Conduct income tax planning for the estate and beneficiaries and assemble the information for the Fiduciary Accountant to prepare the fiduciary income tax returns. Prepare estate tax projections and Federal and State estate tax returns for the attorney s and/or Fiduciary Accountant s review. Gather information required to substantiate the return as filed and any additional information that has surfaced since the filing. Closing out the estate which includes arranging for distribution of remaining assets in cash or by reregistering and distributing securities, drafting receipt and releases and other closing documents. The candidate will have: Bachelor Degree. Notary public certification. 10 years experience in a law firm. Ability to work independently and have in-depth knowledge of the interaction between action and theory. Experience in preparing composites of trust documents. Experience in preparing trust charts. Ability to keep document logs of safe file material.Ability to maintain the internal will inventory or database. Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook. High degree of professionalism and diplomacy and ability to work with all attorneys and staff effectively and professionally. Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task. Must be adept in communicating sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality. Superior knowledge and skill in all aspects of estate administration. Ability to read and interpret the will and prepare the draft of probate papers.
