Workers' Compensation Paralegal The candidate will be responsible to speak with client to open initial file and prepare case opening memorandum. Maintains files, legal writing, including petitions, findings, memos, briefs and appeals, supersedes or motions, etc., and correspondence. Handles health insurer and DPW subrogation s and liens. Oversee ordering of medical, employment and insurance company records by legal assistants. Tracks and follows up on requests for information and discovery process. Analyzes case matters and notes all material that may have an adverse effect on the client and/or case. Conducts legal research, develops knowledge of Work Comp laws as well as medical conditions, treatments and procedures. Liaises between attorney and clients; answers client questions; assists them in solving problems.
The candidate must preferably have 5 years paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department. 2 years experience in working in Workers' Compensation area is a plus. Paralegal degree/certificate is an asset. Bachelor's degree in related field is beneficial. Behavior consistent with ESA's core values of excellence, honesty & integrity, trust & fairness, client-centered, empathy and professionalism is necessary. Knowledge of the Workers' Compensation legal process, medical legal billing and coordination of benefits is required. Strong interpersonal skills are needed as well as ability to develop relationships with internal and external clients. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high energy and team-oriented environment. Ability to produce high quality work under pressure and within tight deadlines is critical. Should be able to work independently and as part of a team; resolves issues, manages conflict and solve problems.
