The San Francisco office of this mid-size firm is engaged primarily in litigation and general business, although the firm boasts a solid regulatory and administrative law practice and a respectable labor/employment practice. The firm has a strong pro bono commitment; associates receive full billable hour credit for approved pro bono work and, overall, pro bono comprises 3-5% of all work. The billable hour target is 1850 and salaries are approximately 20% below market.
Real Estate Paralegal Responsibilities: Drafting basic real estate transfer and related documents. Review title, survey, and title commitments and respond to title and survey comments from counterparties. Perform due diligence, coordinate and implement transactions and work with team to close transactions. Work with vendors to order various due diligence certificates and searches. Work directly with the title companies to finalize title policies for transactions. Track transaction tasks and phases and communicate progress to team as issues and/or items are resolved. Prepare signature page packets and coordinate signatures of various deal participants. Assist attorneys in preparation for, and attend, closings. Prepare closing indices and binders, and follow up on an extensive array of post-closing matters. Conduct research and gather information using general and legal research tools. Other responsibilities as client needs dictate. Requirements: Bachelor's degree and paralegal certificate or appropriate job-related experience. 3+ years commercial real estate transactions with finance experience. Substantial Title and Survey experience. Excellent organizational, communication, analytical and critical thinking skills. Exceptional attention to detail in drafting and proof-reading skills using computer-assisted legal resources. Ability to work independently and as part of team and to plan and take initiative to accomplish objectives in a timely manner with minimum supervision. Must be a team player while effectively and efficiently using firm resources.
