Personal Injury Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant represent plaintiffs in personal injury, medical malpractice, and consumer fraud matters, and are widely regarded as one of the top small personal injury and medical malpractice firms in the Bay Area. Duties: Working directly with clients to understand their injuries and the course of their medical treatment; requesting and obtaining client medical records; writing demand letters and working cases up for mediation and settlement; drafting and responding to discovery; participating in drafting complaints and other law and motion papers; preparing for and participating in arbitrations and trials; calendaring legal deadlines; managing the firm's Window's based electronic and paper filing system; managing court filings; bookkeeping and check writing using Quickbooks; answering the telephone; performing client intake interviews; and providing administrative and secretarial support as needed to the other members of the firm. Although the firm has an IT vendor for advanced problems, we also are looking for someone who can solve basic software and computer problems on their own. Will work alongside our current legal assistant/paralegal with whom they will share most of these job duties and who will provide all needed training. Will have daily interaction with the attorneys and our clients. Qualifications: 3+ years of prior experience working in a litigation law office, and ideally an office that focusses on personal injury, is strongly preferred. Strong undergraduate record and/or prior professional record, and who want to learn more about the legal profession but may not have significant prior law office experience, will also be considered. Help clients obtain fair compensation for their injuries against those responsible for causing them, who wants to work closely with the attorneys and staff, and who wants to be part of team for the long term. Fluency in a foreign language(s) is also a plus. Should be bright, ambitious, well organized, and willing to work under tight deadlines. The abilities to multi-task and work quickly under pressure, strong computer skills, and good writing and telephone communication skills are a must. Must be experienced on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. Prefer experience with Quickbooks, but a willingness to learn is all that is required. Some familiarity with database software, and working on a computer network will be helpful. Generally, the more technically and computer savvy the candidate is in a PC/Windows environment, the better.
