Immigration Paralegal The candidate will perform quality work with limited review. Prepare affidavits, legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys. Organize and maintain documents in both the paper files as well as the MyCase electronic filing system. Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to talk about case details. File entries of appearance, immigration applications, additional evidence, bond motions, prehearing memorandums, witness lists, notices of appeal, and briefs in support of appeal with all immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Serve those documents with the chief counsel of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Fill out immigration applications, collecting the required evidence for these applications, and sending the finished product to USCIS. Help prepare for individual hearings or USCIS interviews by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as necessary. Investigate facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine whether client has a criminal record and, if so, whether criminal record would disqualify him/her from relief. Identify clients who may wish to hire us on new cases, identifying the basic facts and potential solutions in said cases, and immediately referring said cases to an attorney for a consultation. Assist the attorneys with initial client consultations. Gather and analyze statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data. Call on witnesses to testify at hearings. Participate in trainings and works closely with staff to comply with program protocols, work-flow processes and case related policies and procedures. Work closely with both the other attorneys as well as the administrative team (paralegals, front-end staff, and management). Communicate with third parties, courts, and opposing counsel, on short notice if necessary. Participate in staff meetings to collaborate on case strategy and determine case statuses; reports case statuses on at least a monthly basis to managing attorney. Provide excellent customer service while building client rapport and trust. Attend at least one marketing activity per month. Spanish skills are required. Portuguese skills are preferred.
