Trusts and Estates Paralegal The candidate will manage all aspects of trust administration and an occasional probate administration; Draft estate planning documents, including wills, power of attorney documents; Prepare asset inventories, analyze bank and business records, identify trust and non-trust assets, and identify title and character of assets; Analysis of a decedent's assets and develop and implement plan for administration; Valuation of securities using EstateVal; Draft and file court documents, including petitions for instructions, Probate Code Section 850 petitions, petitions to modify trusts, petitions to approve accounting, spousal property petitions, petitions for probate and all filings required to administer a probate estate; Assist clients with trust funding and preparing documents to facilitate same; Prepare and record real property transfer documents and accompanying forms in connection with both planning and post-death administration; Prepare and file federal estate and gift tax returns and assist with tax audits; Analyze trust assets and prepare sub-trust asset allocations; Calendar critical deadlines and meetings; Respond to requests for information from clients, client advisers and firm personnel; Perform legal research to assist attorneys. The candidate must have a bachelor's Degree; Must have paralegal Certificate from ABA-approved paralegal program; Must have 2-5+ years of relevant experience in Trust and Estate planning and administration; Must have overall knowledge of the California Probate Code; Must have familiarity with probate court procedures and California and Bay Area Local Probate Rules of Court; Must have ability to use discretion to decide when to handle matters independently and when to involve an attorney; Must have excellent planning and organization skills, including the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently and strong attention to detail; Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills; Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially demonstrating compassion during tense or difficult times.
