Legal Secretary Responsibilities: Format documents, pull exhibits, proofread and redact documents. Prepare court forms such as summons and subpoenas. E-file court filings and open new matters. Document management and organization, saving to network, indexing for file room. Become familiar with court rules and filing procedures. Retrieve court decisions from Westlaw. Prepare cover letters for attorney bills. Input billing information into billing software. Schedule conferences and depositions, maintain attorney calendars. Manage bills for third-party vendors, process check requests, and follow up with accounting.
Qualifications: Must have 3+ years of experience in a law firm or legal department setting. Prior experience with litigation processes and experience with calendaring. Labor & Employment and appellate court experience is a plus. Familiarity with State and Federal court procedures and rules. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to integrate into a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent typing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel). The ability to work in a team-based setting with other Legal Secretaries supporting a group of attorneys. The ability to coordinate meetings, travel, expense reimbursements, input time, and transcribe dictation.
