Legal Assistant - Paralegal Responsibilities: Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor with clients. Maintains client confidentiality. Must be able to multi-task and to handle tasks quickly and efficiently. Organizes legal documents and files. Obtains pertinent case information and data from the clients and provides periodic updates to clients about the status of their case. Processes mail; determines and enters any necessary case notes for items received. Answers phones, files documents and copying files at the Courthouse. Draft simple legal documents. Draft & send out correspondence/letters. Gather and organize records such as medical records/bills, accident reports, criminal backgrounds, arrest reports, and discovery-related materials, etc. Prepare trial notebooks and organize exhibits for using in trial/hearings. Coordinate payments with clients, including servicing of accounts payable. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Associate's degree is preferred if the candidate has relevant experience in a law office. Paralegal certification is a plus. Spanish speaking/interpreting is a plus. Computer skills and proficiency with MS Word required; proficiency with other MS Office applications a plus. Must be reliable, organized, and pay close attention to detail. A pleasant demeanor and team-player mentality absolutely essential. The ability to prioritize and manage a number of deadlines and tasks. Must be able to operate a telephone, photocopier, computers, and other typical office equipment. Must have the ability to work independently and with limited supervision in support of a busy solo attorney.
