Complex Litigation Paralegal

Title : Complex Litigation Paralegal

Complex Litigation Paralegal The candidate will handle general case management with regular review of files for status, provide client updates to admin assistant for upload to client, and identify next steps needed to move case forward (ideally, approx. every 30-45 days each file should be looked at to evaluate for any needs). Review new files, identify case type, calendar any critical dates and assist with fee approval requests as necessary. Will prepare pleadings (Summons, Civil Cover Sheet, Notices of Appearance, Notice of Hearing, Motions, Affidavit of Service, Certificate of Service, etc.). Review, proofread and prepare pleadings drafted by the attorney for filing, including collection of exhibits, preparation of certificates of service, summons, cover letters, identify PPI and redact exhibits, etc. Obtain additional title information from online register of deeds, requesting additional needed documentation from client, ordering title searches, other task requests, skip traces, researching entity information as needed, etc. Ensure service is completed after complaints filed, following up to request A and P summons, obtain service via process service or publication as necessary. Monitor deadlines, alerting attorney of critical dates, calendar dates and follow ups. Assist attorney with hearing preparation. Confer with the court to schedule hearings and to obtain information as needed. Assist administrative staff with providing client updates as needed. Confer with opposing counsel, title companies, code officers and other county administrative personnel, etc. regarding files. Draft title claim letters, request for reconsideration. Contact code enforcement authorities to request documents and information, follow up after administrative hearings and request any orders, alert attorney of hearings, city/county counsel meetings, as necessary. Research local court rules, confer with clerks, etc. to ensure compliance with court expectations. Notarize documents, keep notary log. Witness conversations with borrowers and make notes to file regarding same. Run Caseware reports on cases and track case flow. Enter information in Caseware and update as necessary and all other job duties as assigned. Must have 2+ years of previous foreclosure litigation experience. Lender systems knowledge is preferred. Order and analyze title examinations, review exceptions to titles, prepare necessary documents to correct or clear title. Order and analyze surveys, prepare and review legal descriptions. Coordinate closing logistics; prepare closing checklists; oversee execution of documents and recordation of appropriate documents; organize complex transactional files. Coordinate post-closing follow-up including recording documents, wiring funds, obtaining necessary cancellation documents, organizing and indexing files and overseeing preparation of closing documents binders. Perform legal research pertaining to multi-state real estate law practice and procedures, proper form execution and acknowledgement of real estate documents for domestic and out of state properties. Prepare and file entity organizational, amendatory, and dissolution/termination documents; prepare and file foreign qualifications and withdrawals. Process and track vendor invoices. Maintain positive relationships with firm attorneys, co-counsel, clients and vendors. Keep accurate time records. Observe confidentiality of client matters. Requirements: Bachelor's degree with a 3.5 GPA. 10 previous years of law firm experience in a commercial real estate practice with substantial experience in title and survey. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Positive attitude and strong, concise communication and writing skills. Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete tasks under strict time constraints. Committed team player as well as a motivated self-starter. Able to work overtime as needed (including weekends and holidays), often without advance notice. Ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously and multi-task. Must be able to work independently and efficiently in an environment that is heavily computer-based, perform under strict time constraints, and follow established client and team guidelines for case and matter management.
