Law and Motions Legal Secretary The candidate will provide support for three or more full-time briefing attorneys. Will research local rules for state and federal courts throughout the country to determine proper deadlines and filing guidelines. Conduct documentary and legal research using on-line research platforms such as Google, Secretary of State, LexisNexis and Westlaw. Write synopses of depositions, testimony, or other applicable documents. Assist in drafting and formatting legal briefs for various trial and appellate courts. Transcribe and proofread legal documents. Produce and file various legal briefs, including manipulation, organization and transmission of voluminous exhibits. Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by keeping an up-to-date calendar and providing timely reminders. Communicate with outside counsel in various jurisdictions to facilitate filing and service of documents. Organize briefing database and resources. Assist in the research, editing and filing of various legal motions and support up to four briefing attorneys. The candidate should have 5+ years of litigation experience at a medium to large size firm, with proven experience as a legal secretary. Knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents, and the civil court system needed. Extensive knowledge of MS Office applications and ability to utilize legal technology essential. Experience using a variety of computer applications and internet programs such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, LexisAdvance, ECF/Pacer and litigation management software needed. Excellent written and oral communication skills essential. Typing speed of 50+ wpm with a high rate of accuracy needed.
