Workers Compensation Case Manager And/Or Attorney Duties: Drafts legal documents, works closely with the attorney to ensure that they are prepared for hearings, depositions, and meditations; has significant client contact and guides the client through the workers compensation process; and works closely with the legal assistant to move the case forward. Speaks with client to open initial file and prepare case opening memorandum. Maintains files. Legal writing, including petitions, filings, memos, briefs and appeals, subpoenas or motions, etc., and correspondence. Handles health insurer subrogations and liens. Oversees ordering of medical, employment and insurance company records by legal assistants. Tracks and follows up on requests for information and discovery process. Analyzes case matters and notes all material that may have an adverse effect on the client and/or case. Conducts legal research; develops knowledge of Work Comp laws as well as medical conditions, treatments and procedures. Liaises between attorney and clients; answers client questions; assists them in solving problems. Requirements: 3 years' paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department preferred. 2 years' experience in working in Workers Compensation area preferred. Successful paralegals are fast-learning, proactive, take ownership of their work, and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of the Workers Compensation legal process, medical legal billing and coordination of benefits. Able to produce high quality work under pressure and within tight deadlines. Able to work independently and as part of a team; resolves issues, manages conflict and solve problems.
