Paralegal The candidate will obtain, organize, and maintain client files and records; digest, analyze, and summarize the evidence, including depositions, public records, medical records, and other materials; conduct client interviews; prepare basic pleadings; file and serve pleadings; aid in the preparation of discovery requests and responses; prepare exhibits for hearings and trial; participate in team and case strategy meetings with attorneys, investigators, and expert witnesses; and aid in developing, implementing, and maintaining office systems for efficient workflow. Completion of a certified paralegal program approved by the American Bar. Association and 1+ years of experience in a law office performing paralegal duties that include knowledge and abilities listed above. Relevant experience and skills may be substituted for education/experience requirements in the case of an exceptional candidate. Must have a demonstrated professional and/or personal interest in our practice areas; Be a caring human being with the ability to be sensitive to legal circumstances and personal issues facing disenfranchised, marginalized, and traumatized people; Be able to work well with people from all backgrounds; Exercise a self-motivated, problem-solving, and forward-facing mindset. Must have polished oral and written communication skills. Must possess unparalleled attention to detail, including exacting proofreading capabilities. Must have excellent organizational skills. Must possess good judgment and discretion. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize workflow efficiently under tight deadlines. Must have the ability to work under occasionally stressful conditions. Must have outstanding Word and Adobe Acrobat skills and be willing to learn the new legal software; and be able to help develop, implement, and maintain office systems. Should have civil and criminal legal processes; The content and language requirements of legal documents; The civil discovery process, including the mechanics of drafting and responding to written discovery; Deciphering police reports, other public records, and medical records; Legal terminology and principles of legal writing and research; and Investigative interviewing techniques.
