This large, rapidly growing, full-service law firm is making big strides in the global realm of telecommunications, e-commerce and dot coms in addition to having a very notable practice in international commerce, corporate and contract litigation. It is located in the Pacific Northwest with branches in the West and in Washington DC. Associates are encouraged to pursue community involvement to enhance their well-rounded approach to law and life. Billable hours credit is given for Pro Bono work, and the firm's hours requirements are very reasonable. Strong mentoring and training programs are present.
Probate Paralegal The candidate will meet and correspond with clients, beneficiaries, banking and other financial institutions, insurance companies, appraisers, and court personnel. Draft probate pleadings for Washington and Oregon courts, Uniform Trust Code documents, and other necessary legal documents for estate and trust administration. Determine and value estate or trust assets, coordinate asset transfer of assets through the estate or trust, pay valid estate or trust debts, and process or arrange for distribution of the estate or trust assets. Prepare necessary tax returns, including fiduciary returns, decedent's final personal income tax returns, and Federal Estate Tax and Gift Returns (Forms 706 and 709), and Oregon and Washington estate tax returns, and file with appropriate taxing authorities. Extensive case management of estate and trust administration. Use and regularly update the firm's appointment and task system to track file activity for each assigned file and to document work completed and work to be completed. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills; high tolerance for stress, rush, and/or last-minute deadlines; the initiative to problem-solve and be resourceful in seeking out solutions and information; good judgment; the ability to learn quickly; excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a changing environment; attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work product; flexibility and the ability to adapt to change and learn new programs and procedures; and the ability to share responsibility, to work as part of a team on a variety of tasks, both complex and routine, and to work without direct supervision in a fast paced setting in which there are rapid changes in daily work schedules. Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm with minimal errors. Must be proficient with Microsoft software; experience with Excel and Visio is beneficial. Must be capable of learning document assembly programs such as Contract Express. College degree or equivalent work experience required, and 3 years law firm experience. Must have probate or trust administration experience. Prior experience in complex, high net-worth estates and trusts matters a plus.
