This firm is very strong in most practice groups, and in our opinion is an excellent firm to work for. The firm has a long history, and has managed to draw some well-known political figures into its partnership ranks. The associates we have spoken with at this firm describe it as a good place to work and for the most part the associates working here believe that the partners are friendly and accessible. Additionally, the people who work at this firm are all fairly friendly; however, some associates we have spoken with have told us that there appears to be an air of formality to their friendliness. While the Firm does not always get high marks for diversity, much of that has changed in recent years. Additionally, this firm consistently ranks near the top for quality of life issues and the associates who work here all seem to be fairly enthusiastic about the quality of life of the firm. This firm compensates its associates very well, and there are few complaints about compensation issues. While the firm does have a flex time program, many of the associates we have spoken with do not appear that pleased with the program and believe it could use improvement. We should note that one thing that is notable about this firm is that it does appear very well positioned at most times because it is consistently able to generate work and keep its associates in most departments busy.
Paralegal, Global Projects Duties: Closing and post-closing activities such as assembling closing packets, preparing documents to be bound, verifying complete execution of documents. Research laws and rulings and best practices relating to legal compliance. Assist in the review and preparation of client files for production. Summarizing transaction documents and reviewing or preparing miscellaneous corporate organizational documents, such as resolutions, by laws and certificates. Liaison with states which entails ordering good standing certificates, copies of formation documents, and UCC searches. Coordinate filings with government agencies and county clerk offices. Monitor filings at various government agencies and retrieve filings as requested by lawyers. Organize and maintain precedent files. Attend to daily administrative matters. Other tasks as assigned by supervising lawyer(s) and Office Administrator. Very limited supervisory responsibilities; may supervise a paralegal clerk. Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. 3+ years work experience in a law firm environment, or related professional experience. Experience with support for merger, acquisitions and joint ventures in the oil and gas and real estate areas. Extensive knowledge and skill in utilizing the Internet, proprietary software research tools (e.g. LexisNexis); experience with legal research tools preferred. Handling of audit request letters, preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including MSWord, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Ability to learn and use databases. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals. Ability to proofread materials for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors. Extent of Contact (Within and outside the Firm) Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with partners, associates, paralegals, management, secretarial, support staff, vendors, and building maintenance. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate by e-mail and telephone providing information with courtesy and tact. Extensive daily contacts with lawyers, staff and colleagues. Assist lawyers in contacts with opposing counsel, government agencies and county clerks. Daily contact with outside vendors. Assist lawyers in contact with clients.
