Medical Records Paralegal Responsibilities: Proactively monitors the status of pending medical record requests for a nationwide firm and communicates with attorneys as to suggested actions to move cases forward to a conclusion based upon their review of medical records. Identifies incomplete or missing information based upon their review of records provided from opposing counsel or directly from a medical provider and proposes a further course of action as required. Drafts, reviews, and edits medical record summaries. Reviews and analyzes information, including medical records, authorizations, documents provided by other parties and their counsel, and medical providers. Proactively monitors the status of pending cases and communicates with attorneys as to case status and suggested actions to move cases forward to the conclusion. Monitors and assists with maintenance of case calendar by scheduling matter events, coordinating with counsel, and generating status reports to keep attorneys updated with matter status. Drafts, reviews and edits legal documents (pleadings, motions, notices, discovery, responses to discovery, etc.) and correspondence. Inputs information regarding the status of medical records into case management software/excel spreadsheets in a timely manner. Provides detailed information regarding alleged injuries and prior or subsequent accidents and their effects through research. Answers questions and supplies detailed information both in person and on the phone. Assists attorneys with preparation for and during trials, arbitration proceedings, administrative hearings, etc., by preparing medical record summaries and documents to be provided to expert witnesses. Performs a variety of clerical activities and other duties as assigned. Assist paralegals with pleadings, discoveries. Qualifications: Associates degree in a related field (such as legal assisting). 5+ years of related experience in analyzing and summarizing medical records from a personal injury or medical malpractice insurance defense background. 5+ years of related experience in Georgia and Florida is required. Experience in any one or more of the following additional state courts is a plus: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, Illinois, or Wisconsin. Interpersonal skills are necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with clients, co-workers, and representatives of other agencies. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate over the phone a must. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent research, analytical, and computer skills. Strong decision-making skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Must work well under pressure and be able to multi-task and prioritize. General knowledge of applicable subject areas, including relevant medical terminology and diagnostic codes. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and in using web-based applications. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and deal with interruptions. Strong attention to detail. Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics, good judgment, and maintain the confidentiality of information. Comfortable working in a remote environment and consistently demonstrating the ability to self-manage deadlines and tasks and manage others as required.
