Paralegal Manager RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead, manage, mentor and develop a team of paralegals and docketing professionals, providing guidance, objectives, and professional development plans and ensuring appropriate staffing and resource levels. Provide oversight of staff and work product, including delivery of effective feedback, coaching, and follow-up, as needed. Develop, implement, and maintain best practices and standards for paralegal and docketing support to include: core responsibilities/competencies, processes, recommended workflow for common tasks (e.g., cite-checking, e-filing, calendar entry, routine reporting), operational support, and resources (e.g., knowledge management materials, guides, and checklists). Develop, roll out, and monitor litigation docketing and calendaring program; establish date publication systems (e.g., Outlook reminders, distributed reports, calendar portal); maintain current professional knowledge of docketing applications and best practices. Develop, manage, and maintain professional development and training programs for staff, including quarterly, department-wide programming; support and coordinate practice-specific training. Monitor and optimize the teams work load and billable/chargeable hours and report progress on a monthly basis. Work with IP Administrator and patent prosecution team to oversee and monitor outsourced docketing and IDS reference management functions. Develop and maintain working relationships with practice groups, attorneys, and staff in order to identify and address performance issues, support needs, and opportunities to expand service offerings. Assist attorneys and matter teams in all phases of trial preparation and trial support. Provide logistical support for off-site and trial locations, including; planning of war room setup and location investigation, coordination with eDiscovery team on vendor management for support services and equipment needs, and staff trial support. Demonstrate high proficiency for both internal and external customer service. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and relevant field experience required. 5+ years of experience in a legal environment as a paralegal; thorough knowledge of the litigation process. Demonstrated experience managing and supervising multiple employees. Strong proficiency with cite-checking, court/agency deadline calculation from rules, and general paralegal support duties, familiarity with litigation discovery process highly desirable. Strong ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both in oral and written form. Ability to multi-task, prioritize/coordinate deadlines, and track progress of tasks. Demonstration of strong leadership and motivational skills. Ability to organize work flow and use time efficiently. Proficiency in office productivity tools (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat Professional) with an aptitude for learning new technology. Demonstration of strong attention to detail and accuracy. Maintenance of confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in or out of a team environment. Possesses and fosters within the department an environment of collaboration and sharing. Willingness to learn and adopt new methodologies. Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours.
