Paralegal - Intellectual Property Duties: Support for IP attorneys on patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Reviewing and acting upon correspondence received from the USPTO and U.S. Copyright Office regarding client patent/trademark/copyright matters, maintaining attorney dockets, and maintaining and updating docket entries. Act as primary support for two or more attorneys in the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh offices, including preparing materials for attorney s signature, conducting database searches for attorneys, filing materials electronically on the USPTO and U.S. Copyright Office websites, and coordinating payment of patent and trademark maintenance fees via firm deposit account. Lead the operation and management of an IP docketing and annuity payment system (patent and trademarks); monitor docket, prepare ongoing docket reports, and timely notify appropriate IP attorneys of impending due dates; maintain day-to-day responsibility for all IP correspondence intake, file management, deadline management, docketing / de-docketing; complete IP due diligence for corporate transactions; prepare and file USPTO and U.S. Copyright Office applications and other submissions; perform and analyze online research to determine availability of a proposed patent or trademark for use and registration, supplemental to the use of patent and trademark search reports prepared by third-party services. Qualifications: Prefer Bachelor's degree and paralegal certificate. 3+ years of direct experience working in an intellectual property prosecution environment within a law firm or in-house. Experience with USPTO filing procedures, docketing, and supporting IP attorneys. Must have first hand-experience with and demonstrated knowledge of IP docketing system. Experience working with and understanding the rules and regulations set forth by the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) are essential to success in this position. Excellent organizational, problem solving, and priority setting skills. Adept at meeting frequent deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and shall have: excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with and appropriately protect sensitive, proprietary, and confidential information; strong organizational skills to manage and drive projects and tasks; strong prioritization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities, and the ability to quickly adjust to shifting priorities and demanding deadlines; and, the ability to work in a team environment while exercising independent judgment. The candidate shall also provide paralegal and administrative support of a responsible and confidential nature to ensure the smooth functioning of legal matters and projects.
