This DC office is an outpost of a major New York firm, but don't worry; the atmosphere is anything but cutthroat. This small DC office, whose most remarkable practice areas are in healthcare and litigation, offer paternity leave, domestic partner benefits and pro bono opportunities. The pay might be a bit below scale, but look for leanly staffed cases, good work, and a congenial atmosphere.
Foreign Filing Paralegal The candidate will prepare and submit patent filings in all foreign jurisdictions, including PCT, Paris Convention, and national phase filings. Manage and track all aspects of foreign formalities associated with filing, including obtaining notarized documents necessary to comply with country law requirements. Serve as primary contact with foreign associates from first filing to request for examination, which includes among other things the following: Preparing letters to foreign associates outlining our clients instructions for both direct and national phase patent applications. Coordinating with foreign associates the status of transferred applications. Notifying foreign associates of bulk changes to the assignee, docket numbers and attorney assignments. Coordinate and track monthly annuity and other maintenance requirements to ensure clients IP rights are not unintentionally abandoned. Prepare US formalities documents including Declarations, Assignments, and Powers of Attorney. Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements. Participate in docket checks for all pending patent matters to ensure all deadlines and data are accurately entered and met. Perform any and all other duties as necessary and as assigned by your supervisor for efficient functioning of the Department, Office and Firm. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 plus years foreign filing experience. Should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Should meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Quickly and proactively identify problems and develop solutions. Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex and fast-paced environment. Work well independently and escalate issues as needed. Should have strong technical skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and patent docketing software; PATTSY experience is a plus. Should have willingness and flexibility to work overtime as needed.
